Jinzhou Port Aluminum Development Co., Ltd. is gearing up for its gigantic alumina refinery project. The company plans to invest as much as 16 billion yuan ($2.46 billion) to build an alumina refinery complex with a total capacity of 10 million tons per annum in multiple phases near the coast of Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. The company has completed the feasibility study and expects to begin construction in the first half of 2018. When completed, the project will become the world’s largest single alumina refinery and turn Jinzhou Port into a hub of alumina production, storage, and distribution.
The bauxite for the refinery will be mainly imported from Guinea and the annual import volume is estimated to reach 30 million tons. The alumina products will specifically target aluminum smelters in Inner Mongolia and Northeast China. The main investors of the project are Jinzhou Port Co., Ltd, the mother company of Jinzhou Port Aluminum Development, and local governments.
